Discovering Art

Students are introduced to a variety of different media and techniques. We explore the invention of culture and how the original arts reflected human intelligence and civilization. We will learn about art and artists from many cultures from prehistory up to the early Middle Ages in Europe. Hands-on experiences in drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture will encourage self-expression and develop creative problem-solving skills.

Drawing and Painting Workshop

Artists will develop their artistic skills while having fun discovering their own personal style. Working from still life, photographs, images from art history and/or independent themes and ideas, students will be introduced to specific drawing and painting fundamentals and techniques. These include line drawing, value, shape, pattern, texture, shading and highlighting. Students will also experiment with a variety of tools, media and techniques.

Our job is to arouse an appetite for the best, to make children and adults joyfully aware of the explosive, poignant, soothing, analytical and often mystifying qualities of language carefully formulated.

Brilliant stories and poems, articles, ethical dilemmas, animated discussion – all heighten language use and sensibility. All of these are inspirational ways in which the give-and-take of language allows us to express the thinking mind and the beauty-seeking spirit.  Our mission is to help both children and adults unleash their imaginations onto the blank page, and discover the fun that can come from writing!  We believe that everyone has a story to tell, and we want to help them write it!

Our students will be trained on the fundamental principles, techniques and craft of journalism through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, hands-on production and individual work.

Students will  focus on higher math—including algebra I, geometry, algebra II, trigonometry, and pre-calculus—in preparation for high school exit exams, college placement exams, and standardized college entrance exams such as the SAT and the ACT.

Speed Reading

Many people read at an average rate of 250 words per minute. This means that an average page in a book or document would take you 1-2 minutes to read. Imagine if you could double your rate to 500 words per minute. You could zip through all of this content in half the time. You could then spend the time saved on other tasks, or take a few extra minutes to relax.

Another important advantage of speed reading is that you can better comprehend the overall structure of an argument. This leads to an improved “bigger picture” understanding, which can greatly benefit your work and career.

Test Preparation (SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT)

We offer SAT test-preparation courses designed to help students achieve higher SAT scores. Our courses are an invaluable experience for all types of students who wish to do well on the SAT. They build a strategic foundation for test-taking and provide students with critical skills to conquer the SAT.

Our courses are staffed by experienced instructors. Besides SAT preparation, we also offer courses in other standardized tests.

This course will cover test-taking mentality and content review with a fair amount of practice and reflection. The course will spend equal time toward developing skills in critical reading, math, and writing. We will address strategies for improving speed and accuracy and ways to cope with the emotions before, during, and after testing.
